Tips From Our Favorite Review Site

We here at Like New love our friends over at Angie’s List. They provide a great platform for consumers to find companies that are highly rated by peers and are not recommended based on paid advertisements. We’re going to go ahead and give you some of the carpet tips that come directly from her site.

Different spots may require different cleaning methods. No matter what caused the stain, you’ve got to deal with it right away. Here’s some advice from Angie Hicks, founder of Angie’s List.
You want to make sure you’re using the right tools. Use a dry, clean cloth and blot – don’t rub – the stain, otherwise, it might lead to a lasting stain.
Blood can be difficult. If it’s coagulated and starts to clump up, take a spoon or butter knife and carefully remove as much as you can. Then start to blot it out with a soap and water solution.
Use cold water and ice for blood stains. For everything else, use a cup of warm water mixed with a quarter-cup of dishwashing liquid.
Angie has this trick for dealing with another really tough stain: red wine.
First, blot the spot where the red wine has been spilled, and then, if you actually sprinkle some white wine on top of the red wine, you’ll improve your chances of getting that spot out.
For deep stains that penetrate through to the padding, especially pet urine, blotting and cleaning will only do so much. For that, you’ll need to extract the mess from the sub surface padding. That will take a special extraction tool.
When it comes to ink, bleach or Kool-Aid, Angie recommends leaving it to the pros. Those are tough stains that can damage your carpet if you aren’t careful.
Also, be sure to try any home remedies in an inconspicuous spot before attempting to clean something in a highly visible area.
The bottom line: Be careful. Be gentle. Know when to call for help. When you get to a point where help is necessary, feel free to give Like New a call and let our professionally trained and certified carpet cleaning orlando technicians work their magic!

Rug Cleaning Orlando professionals know that if you approach the cleaning process the same way that its a great way to ruin your rug. We use a full submersion method with the proper solutions to ensure your rug is cleaned and dried properly and in the correct amount of time. Don’t hire a cleaner off of craig’s list with a portable unit come and clean your natural fiber wool rug, this is a recipe for disaster. Ask questions, what products do you use, how do you clean my rug, can you clean it in home? If you get a response that they use the same product on your carpets they do on your rugs, RUN. If they say they use a steam cleaning method on your rugs, RUN. If they say they can clean your rug on site in your home RUN. More Cleaning Tips

Hello! We’re back to provide some “do it yourself” carpet cleaning tips that might help you with a spot, stain or spill when you are in-between cleanings.  While it is recommended to have your carpets deep steam cleaned every 6-12 months by Carpet Cleaning professionals, these tips will help in the interim.

The first tip, which is the most important, is to dab when cleaning a spill.  The worst thing you can do is rub the mess. When you rub the mess on the carpet, you’re actually helping the substance to embed itself into the carpet fibers. You’ll want to use a clean rag, paper towel or sponge in correlation with the cleaning product of choice and dab, or blot the mess.  Dabbing or blotting the mess will absorb it into the rag rather than rub it deeper into the carpet fibers.

A very good cleaning method that should be your first go to is the club soda method. Club soda works great with beer and wine spills. First, try blotting or dabbing the spill with some of the club soda on the rag.  The club soda will typically yield great results. You may have to repeat the procedure a couple of times to get the most effective results.  If you are successful in removing the stain, you should then rinse the area with warm water. Then brush the carpet with your hand, to help the fibers get back to a natural position. Lastly, lay a paper towel or two on top of the wet area and put something on top of the paper towels to weigh them down. Leaving them there for a while will absorb the leftover moisture and leave the area looking great.

We hope these tips help and we will be providing you with more useful tips in the future.  Don’t forget about your regularly suggested maintenance cleanings though! When you’re ready give us a call at 407-947-6724 and we would be more than happy to schedule you in.  Thanks and have a great day!

Need Your Home Cleaned? We Got You Covered!

Did you know that here at Like New Cleaning we provide home cleaning services as well as our carpet, tile & grout and upholstery cleaning services?  We provide single cleanings that work well for move in/move outs, post construction or the standard annual spring cleaning.  We also provide a variety of recurring cleanings. Weekly, bi-weekly and monthly cleanings take up most of our professional cleaners time.  All of our cleaners are trained employees, so there are none of the concerns that come along with unlicensed, uninsured freelancing cleaners who work independently.  We hold the same high level of quality standards for all home cleanings just the same as with our carpet cleaning, tile & grout and upholstery cleanings. Those high standards that we hold for ourselves are what have helped us to become as prominent and successful as we are today.  So, if you find yourself considering having a professional cleaning service please consider us.  Whether it is a one time deep clean, a weekly cleaning, bi-weekly cleaning or monthly cleaning, we would love the opportunity to showcase the top quality cleanings that our professional cleaners are used to completing daily. Feel free to call us with any questions you may have or to schedule in a professional cleaning.  Thank you!

Upholstery Cleaning

Did you know that amongst our many services here at Like New, upholstery cleaning is on of our most popular? Well, it is!  We clean a variety of upholstery from couches to chairs, ottomans to sectionals.  If it can be steam cleaned, we can do it.  We use top of the line equipment for all of our services. Our successful cleanings start with our top of the line truck mounted units.  These units provide the us with the ability to perform the highest quality cleanings possible.  When using our specialty upholstery tool in line with our truck mounted unit we are able to use a very high heat (up to 230 degrees) and high vacuum (up to 700 cfm) to achieve the best possible cleaning results.  Our machines can provide pressures of up to 2,500 psi, which comes in very handy for our carpet or tile & grout cleanings, but when cleaning upholstery we dial the pressure down quite a bit.  The dialed down pressure is key when cleaning upholstery. The lower pressure helps us to obtain the best results without over wetting the furniture.  Less experienced cleaners may not know how much of a difference that one detail makes.  Over-saturation can water log any wooden frames inside the furniture as well as soak the stuffing material inside.  Another unwanted result from over-pressured cleaning would be leftover marks in the upholstery.  Here at Like New we combine our top of the line equipment with the professional methods used by our IICRC certified Carpet Cleaning Orlando technicians to provide you with the best possible cleaning results.  We would love to answer any questions you may have or schedule you in for a cleaning, don’t hesitate to call! 407-947-6724

Pet Stain Removal Help

Anyone who has ever owned a dog, cat or any other pet that can make a mess in their home has more than likely had to clean up an unwelcome mess, which leaves behind an unwanted pet odor and urine stains that seem to be extremely difficult to get out completely. Whether it is urine, feces or vomit, we’ve all been there and done that (unfortunately). But alas, we are here to provide you with some tips to help when the situation arises.

The first step will be to clean up the bulk of the mess, if it is vomit or feces. With gloved hands and paper towels delicately pick up any of the mess that can be picked up and disposed of and place in a bag that can be sealed. Make sure to blot any remaining fluids with a clean rag or paper towel. Do not scrub, rub or wipe the fluid, only blot. Scrubbing, rubbing and wiping will typically force the contaminants further into the carpet fibers and cause more of a problem. Continue to blot repeatedly until the carpet is fairly dry and most of the stain has been removed.

If the stain has already dried into the carpet fibers you will need to re wet the affected area. Don’t flood it, but moisten it up enough so the stain causing contaminants can begin to become volatile. After the area is moistened, apply a pet specific stain remover and blot the area as previously described.

To help in eliminating any odor or a stubborn stain, try using white vinegar or white wine on the affected area. Mix 1/4 cup of vinegar with a quart of warm water and lightly spray on the stain. Allow the vinegar spray to soak for several minutes and then proceed to blot the area until stain is gone and spot is dry.

Another method that can help to get rid pet stains effectively is to mix a quart of water with a stain-fighting laundry detergent, then spray it on the spot. Allow it to soak for a few minutes, then blot, rinse with warm water, and repeat if needed.

Hopefully these tips will help if you’re ever in a jam. The most effective way to deal with a pet stain would be to let our professional pet odor removal technicians put their years of experience and stain removal methods to work for you. Call us anytime and we would love to answer any questions you may have or schedule you in for an appointment.  Thanks!

Ink Stain Removal Tips

We all know there have been countless occasions in which we have spilled something or tracked something through our home, all over our carpet and made a accidental mess. They can be frustrating, but hopefully some of the tips we provide you with will help out in between cleanings.  Today we will provide some tips on cleaning Ink Stains.

The first step is to dampen a clean white cloth with a high percentage isopropyl alcohol. Then proceed by dabbing the wet cloth on the ink stain. Make sure to only dab. Rubbing or scrubbing could cause the ink spot to spread. Let it stand for a few minutes and then use a shop vac to remove the excess fluid.

You may need to treat the ink stain with the alcohol again. Some other products could possibly replace the isopropyl, if you don’t have it on hand.  Hairspray, nail polish remover and other products that contain high contents of alcohols may be used.  When using any of these solutions, rinse with water then blot or vacuum dry until spot is dry.  Another tip is to try the solution on a hidden area of carpet to make sure it will not change the color of the carpet.

We hope this tip will help if the occasion arises.  If you cannot remove a stain or it’s time for your regular cleaning, our professional Local Carpet Cleaners would love to help solve the situation for you.  Thanks from Like New Cleaning and have a great day!

Subsurface Extraction Cleaning

If you are curious as to what a subsurface cleaning is, we’re here to help fill you in. This process is to help rectify pet odor in your carpet. We know that this is one of the most common problems when dealing with carpet, and the urine odor is just so difficult to remove. A subsurface cleaning is a process that will extract contaminants from and clean the padding under your carpet. While the professional deep steam cleaning will get most contaminants out of the carpet itself and leave it looking clean and feeling fresh, there are scenarios in which a subsurface cleaning is needed as well. The most common occurrence that calls for a subsurface cleaning is pet odor.  When a pet urinates on the carpet frequently in the same area that urination will seep down through the carpet and embed itself into the padding underneath. It will then dry up and crystallize itself within the padding.  Once that happens it is very difficult to extract without the subsurface process. That is what creates the pungent smell that just seems to linger.

Once we have located the areas that need the subsurface cleaning we then completely saturate the affected areas, allowing the liquid solution to flow through the carpet fibers while seeping deep into the carpet’s backing, padding, and subfloor. The solution rehydrates and breaks down pet urine crystals in preparation for extraction and rinsing.

We then use a specialty tool designed to flush out the solution and animal waste from your carpets to a holding tank outside in our van. This method typically has a very high success rate.  If you find yourself in need of a subsurface cleaning, our Professional Carpet Cleaning Orlando technicians would be more than happy to provide that service in a fantastic manner!
